OUR INSTRUCTORS:
Christina Headrick has been an avid scrapbooker for 18 years. Starting when she was a little kid, Christina began absorbing the essential rules of great visual design and color theory from her grandmother, a retired florist. Before opening Carolina Memories, she took two years to travel around the country learning from successful scrapbook stores and attending educational programs with top designers at major tradeshows and conventions. Her training included going to EK Success headquarters for instruction in how to teach Scrapbook Design & You. Christina loves sharing all that she has learned and wants to empower her classes to create beautiful things in their lives.
Charlotte Hayes, Charlotte graduated with enthusiasm and a degree in art from Warren Wilson College. She got interested in art when… well, actually she can’t remember that far back. But she loves art and plays in a variety of mediums. Charlotte became interested in teaching when she began working at camps while she was still in college. She has been a nature instructor, canoe instructor, health coordinator, after-school teacher, as well as an art instructor. As an art instructor, she has taught print making, book making, how to dye paper and fabric, and paper making. Charlotte enjoys sharing knowledge with others, and she believes that she learns as much from her students as they learn from her. Now, we’ll brag on her, since she’s too modest to bring it up: some of the books that she has made have already been included in a wonderful, hardback book, The Decorated Page. We are really thrilled to have her expertise in our classroom.
Coral McDonald, a local kindergarten teacher, has a passion for childhood education. A native of South Africa, she actually created that country’s kindergarten program. She is also a wife, mother of two, and avid scrapbooker. For Coral, scrapbooking is not only her favorite pastime – it’s also a “coping method” because it helps her to relax. She’s excited to help some of our youngest customers grow artistically and creatively as our children’s scrapbook teacher.
Mara Viviano, Some of you may remember Mara from when she worked at Carolina Memories last year. Now she is back to join our teaching staff and share her years of being an artisan with all of you. “I remember being a little girl and always having to take paper and crayons with me everywhere,” says Mara. “I just had to draw everything I saw or thought of. All my life I have had a desire to express myself in an artistic way.” Mara has a Bachelors of Fine Arts with a specialty in drawing from Ball State University in Indiana. She has had her work in various shows and has won acclaim with everything from fiber arts to pastel drawing. Her current passion is Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) and she hosts an ATC Club at Carolina Memories the Second Friday of every month.
